Present a concept sketch, and explain how you envision it developing over the next 6 weeks for the final project. You will have 15 minutes for presentation+feedback, a guest critic will be present to help ask questions. It could be installation, I have green room booked, and room 305 annexes.

• A project that represents 6 (well really 13) weeks of thoughtful work, a process.
• Something that fits into your practice and the larger ideas you’re working with right now.
• This should not be just a technical demo, I am *much* more interested in code used in a deliberate, considered way that opens new creative potential for your work. It need not be computer based, but should use programming principles. Think beyond the capabilities of this library, you can use other JS libraries, Java Processing, other??
• Consideration (1) relationship of programming to your own work. — How does it allow you to extend? What are the implications of using programming in the way you are choosing? What is unique about this form/medium for you?
• Consideration (2) precedents — What has been done already? What areas have not been explored? How are you innovating?
• Consideration (3) audience — Who is your desired audience? How will this piece reach them? What is the optimal form? We will work out later as a class best way to view everyone’s work.

• Project Timeline: The next six weeks will be about developing your proposals into the final project, and the structure will be a mix of studio time, individual and group meetings, discussions and some technical tutorials. For this week's assignment, draft a 6-week schedule of what you hope to accomplish every week. Take a stab at breaking down your project idea into isolated problems, tasks, or components to figure out. These components may need to be further broken down into subparts. I will review this schedule with you briefly during individual meetings during studio time next week.

  • Technical problems that need to be researched and solved
  • Important functions/methods that would be useful to implement in your program

Present a fully formed final project unifying your technical work with your conceptual leanings.

• Consideration (1) PRESENTATION. — Consider presentation/execution and how you want the critics to engage with your work. Is it a cold read? Are you leading us through a website? Is it a performance the audience will experience? You will have 20 minutes total for presentation and feedback.
• Consideration (2) POSITION — What position are you taking with your content? Why is this topic important to you? How is code strengthening your position?
• Consideration (3) DOCUMENTATION — Document your installation thoroughly with high-resolution photographs and screenshots. They will be due the following week. If you are not coding for your project, then prepare an essay describing the role of coding in your project.

Email me the following documentation of your final project:

1. Complete, executable code files as a zip file for your project or, if you didn't code for your project, a 1 page essay or pseudo-code describing the role of code in your project.
2. 2-3 select screenshots or high-resolution photos that you feel represent your project
3. A short screengrab or video of your project in action.
